1. Your category in Iran
Pick your category and this section shows what we actually hold for Iran: how many potential buyers we have verified, what roles they play in the supply chain, and how well they fit. Switch back to All industries at any time.
“Potential buyers” means the buyers we have verified and listed in our own directory — not every importer in the country. Buyer roles are our own grouping of the roles recorded in that directory. (4 of these records do not yet carry a recorded buyer role.)
2. Entry gate
Iran's entry gate is not a technical standard but the combination of import registration, standards conformity and — above all — payment. Banking channels are restricted, the rial is not convertible, and foreign exchange for imports is allocated through official mechanisms that change frequently. Treat the payment route as the first question, not the last.
| Requirement | Status | What it involves | Lead time | Cost | Last verified |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Import registration and licence | Mandatory | Importers must be registered in the national trade system and, for many categories, obtain a prior import permit. Registration requirements and permitted categories change frequently — verify the current position before quoting. | Variable | Pending | Pending |
| ISIRI standards conformity | Mandatory (regulated goods) | Conformity with the applicable Iranian national standard, verified by an approved inspection body, normally before shipment. | 2–6 weeks | Per shipment | Pending |
| Payment and banking route | Decides whether a deal is possible | Restricted banking channels mean the payment route must be structured and reviewed case by case. Foreign exchange is allocated through official mechanisms at rates that differ from the market rate. Do not ship against an unconfirmed route. | Case by case | Pending | Pending |
| Tariff (MFN) | Always applies | Average applied MFN tariff around 15.2%; the rate depends on the HS line and must be confirmed line by line at HS-code level. | — | On customs value | Pending |
| Tariff (preference) | Not available for Chinese origin | Iran has preferential arrangements with a small number of countries and no free trade agreement with China. Chinese-origin goods pay the MFN rate, which is high across many industrial lines. | — | — | Pending |
| VAT | Always applies | A value added tax applies to imports at a standard rate that has been revised several times in recent years. Confirm the current rate with the importer's clearing agent before quoting — we do not publish a figure we cannot currently verify. | — | Confirm locally | Pending |
| Labelling | Mandatory | Persian-language labelling with product name, manufacturer and importer, country of origin and safety information. | 1–3 weeks | — | Pending |
Certification, tariff and clearance figures change. Every row above carries a verification date, and the current requirement is confirmed with your nominated local agent before each shipment.
3. Buyers and channel partners
Leading buyers and channel partners
Every company below is a real business in Iran taken from our own buyer research, and we have verified that its website is reachable. Names and business types are public; decision-makers, direct emails and phone numbers are reserved for members of the Buyer Directory. We are still verifying further channel partners in this market, so this list is shorter than our usual three: rather than pad it with companies we cannot stand behind, it stays as it is and grows as our research continues.
How to use this list: this is a market for deliberate decisions, not opportunistic ones. If you have an existing relationship and a legally reviewed payment route, the demand is real. If you do not, do not start.
4. Demand and import profile
Select your HS code and this block shows the import performance of your own category in Iran — not the country's macro numbers.
Import size & growth
Example: imports of this category run at a double-digit share of the market's total and are growing faster than overall imports.

A static table cannot persuade anyone. Enter your own numbers and see the landed cost. Duty rate and freight are editable so you can test scenarios.

Estimated landed cost
Illustrative calculation only. It excludes anti-dumping duty, excise, port storage and any category-specific surcharge. Confirm the duty rate and local charges with your forwarder before making a commitment.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get paid normally for exports to Iran?
No. There is no routine payment route — banking channels are restricted and must be structured case by case with legal review. We do not ship against an unconfirmed route.
Is there a free trade agreement between China and Iran?
No. Chinese-origin goods pay the MFN rate, which is high across many industrial lines.
What is the import VAT rate?
A value added tax applies at a standard rate that has been revised several times. Confirm the current figure with the importer's clearing agent before quoting.
Do I need an import permit?
For many categories, yes, and permitted categories change. Verify the current position before quoting.
Which port should I use?
Bandar Abbas (Shahid Rajaee) handles the bulk of container traffic. Confirm the carrier's current policy before booking, as it can change at short notice.
Do labels have to be in Persian?
Yes. Persian labelling with the manufacturer, importer, origin and safety information is required.
