Exporting to Pakistan

Pakistan on the world map
A manufacturing economy on an unstable grid, and more industrial than most sellers assume: roughly 65% of industrial value added comes from manufacturing, with textiles, food processing and engineering in the lead. Pre-shipment inspection is the gate, load shedding is a normal operating condition, and L/C-based trade finance is standard.

1. Your category in Pakistan

Pick your category and this section shows what we actually hold for Pakistan: how many potential buyers we have verified, what roles they play in the supply chain, and how well they fit. Switch back to All industries at any time.

Import scale and growth by HS line is not on this page yet. We are wiring the customs statistics for each category and will add them here; until then we quote the figures per enquiry rather than publish an estimate.

“Potential buyers” means the buyers we have verified and listed in our own directory — not every importer in the country. Buyer roles are our own grouping of the roles recorded in that directory. (4 of these records do not yet carry a recorded buyer role.)

2. Entry gate

The first gate an exporter has to clear. Pakistan layers a standards requirement on top of a pre-shipment inspection: conformity is demonstrated before the goods leave your side, not after they arrive.

Pakistan's gate has one feature that changes your production schedule: inspection happens at origin. If the shipment fails inspection, it fails before it leaves — which is better than a rejection at Karachi, but only if you book the inspection into your timeline instead of discovering it after the container is sealed.

Certification, tariff and clearance figures change. Every row above carries a verification date, and the current requirement is confirmed with your nominated local agent before each shipment.

Leading buyers and channel partners

Every company below is a real business in Pakistan taken from our own buyer research, and we have verified that its website is reachable. Names and business types are public; decision-makers, direct emails and phone numbers are reserved for members of the Buyer Directory.

How to use this list: do not mass-mail. Pakistani industrial buying is relationship-led and often family-firm based. A referral or a trade-fair introduction converts far better than a cold email.

4. Demand and import profile

Select your HS code and this block shows the import performance of your own category in Pakistan — not the country's macro numbers.

Import size & growth

Example: industrial power equipment is a large import line, driven by load shedding and by the textile and food-processing sectors.

Source-country mix

Example: China is the dominant source, ahead of the UAE, Germany and Japan.

Price band

Example: Chinese supply competes across all bands; the premium band is held by European and Japanese brands with local service networks.

What we can supply to this market

These are the lines we have found the strongest fit for Pakistan. Specifications are on the product pages; tell us your application and we will confirm the model.

PV inverters — 1–25 kW grid-tie and 4–12 kW hybrid storage inverters with IP65 enclosures and WiFi monitoring, matched to the rooftop sizes common in industrial estates Specifications
Power-loss regulating equipment — Three-phase, parallel-connected units that cut energy consumption where the supply is present but unstable — the factory-side answer to high bills Specifications
Water pump controllers — MCU + IPM/IGBT controllers covering self-priming pumps, built for irrigation duty where voltage swings destroy ordinary controllers Specifications
Portable power stations — 800–3500 W LiFePO4 units, 1–3 kWh, for small commercial backup during load shedding Specifications

5. Landed-cost calculator

A static table cannot persuade anyone. Enter your own numbers and see the landed cost. Duty rate and freight are editable so you can test scenarios.

Unit landed cost: — per unit. Duty rate is editable because the exact rate depends on your HS line — confirm it before quoting.

Illustrative calculation only. It excludes anti-dumping duty, excise, port storage and any category-specific surcharge. Confirm the duty rate and local charges with your forwarder before making a commitment.

6. Logistics and customs

Main gateways: Karachi and Port Qasim, with Gwadar developing
Inland movement to Lahore and Faisalabad is by road and rail
Pre-shipment inspection must be completed at origin before the container is sealed
Common hold-ups: inspection documentation mismatch, HS classification disputes, regulatory duty applied at assessment
Summer heat and the monsoon affect inland delivery windows

Clearance-day figures change with congestion and policy; treat as indicative and confirm before quoting.

7. Payment, currency and tax

Letters of credit are standard for most imports and are the instrument to plan around for first orders
Confirm the issuing bank's standing before production starts
Agree the Incoterm, the L/C wording and the documents required at quotation stage
18% sales tax is paid by the importer at import and is normally recoverable if registered
T/T becomes workable once a trading relationship is established

8. Localisation and communication

Pakistan's formal side is very formal: offers, inspection paperwork and L/C documents are expected on email, in English, with proper references. The informal side runs on WhatsApp and moves fast. The mistake is to blur them — a price agreed in a chat is not a price agreed. Confirm every commercial point in the formal channel, and use WhatsApp only to accelerate the conversation.

9. Risks and timing

High
Currency & FX — The rupee has depreciated and FX availability has been constrained in recent years. Price in USD and confirm the L/C is confirmed by a bank you accept.
Medium
Regulatory duty — Additional regulatory duties can be applied at assessment on top of the MFN rate, changing the landed cost after you have quoted. Build headroom into the price.
Medium
Energy & production — Load shedding affects your buyer's production schedule as much as your shipment. Align delivery dates with their operating reality.
Medium
Policy — Import policy and tariff schedules are revised through the annual budget cycle. Re-confirm the position before each shipment.

Frequently asked questions

Can you support pre-shipment inspection for Pakistan?

Yes. We coordinate with the inspection agency nominated for your shipment and prepare the documentation pack in advance, so the inspection is booked into the production schedule rather than discovered after the container is sealed.

Is there a preferential tariff under the China–Pakistan FTA?

Preferential rates are available under the China–Pakistan Free Trade Agreement for goods that meet the rules of origin, with a valid certificate of origin. The applicable rate depends on your HS line, so confirm it before quoting.

How much sales tax is charged on imports?

The standard rate is 18%, charged on the CIF value plus duty. It is normally recoverable by a registered importer.

Will equipment cope with load shedding and voltage swings?

Yes, that is the design case. Inverters and controllers are specified with wide input tolerance and protection, and portable stations switch to battery on loss of supply. Tell us your measured voltage range and we will confirm the right model.

What payment terms are normal?

Letters of credit are standard for most imports and are what we plan around for first orders. T/T becomes workable once a trading relationship is established.
