1. Your category in Peru
Pick your category and this section shows what we actually hold for Peru: how many potential buyers we have verified, what roles they play in the supply chain, and how well they fit. Switch back to All industries at any time.
“Potential buyers” means the buyers we have verified and listed in our own directory — not every importer in the country. Buyer roles are our own grouping of the roles recorded in that directory. (4 of these records do not yet carry a recorded buyer role.)
2. Entry gate
Peru's most-favoured-nation tariff is low and the China–Peru FTA removes duty on most industrial lines with a certificate of origin, so cost is rarely the problem. The gate is conformity: INACAL sets the standards framework and sector technical regulations require documented proof of compliance for regulated electrical products. The common mistake is treating certification as a post-arrival formality — it has to be in place to clear and to sell. Confirm the applicable technical regulation for your HS line first.
| Requirement | Status | What it involves | Lead time | Cost | Last verified |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Technical conformity (INACAL) | Mandatory (regulated goods) | Peru manages its standards framework through INACAL, and regulated electrical products must comply with the applicable Peruvian technical regulation and hold a certificate of conformity before they can be sold. | Pending | Pending | Pending |
| Importer registration | Always applies | The importer must be registered with SUNAT and hold a RUC tax number. Registration sits with the local importer, not with the overseas seller. | Pending | Pending | Pending |
| Importer of record | Always applies | Import declarations must be filed by a Peruvian-established importer of record. A foreign seller cannot act as importer of record without a local entity, so appoint a distributor or set one up. | Pending | Pending | Pending |
| Tariff (MFN) | Always applies | Average applied MFN tariff around 1.1%; the rate depends on the HS line and must be confirmed line by line at HS-code level. | — | On customs value | Pending |
| Tariff (preference) | Available (China–Peru FTA) | The China–Peru Free Trade Agreement, in force since 2010, removes duty on the large majority of Chinese-origin industrial lines when a valid certificate of origin is presented. Without it the most-favoured-nation rate applies. | — | — | Pending |
| VAT | Always applies | 18% total import VAT — 16% IGV plus a 2% IPM municipal tax — is charged on the CIF value plus duty at import. A VAT-registered importer can credit the IGV against output tax, so it is normally recoverable. | — | 18% | Pending |
| Labelling | Mandatory | Labels must be in Spanish and carry product identification, the importer's details and the safety information required by the applicable technical regulation. | Pending | Pending | Pending |
Certification, tariff and clearance figures change. Every row above carries a verification date, and the current requirement is confirmed with your nominated local agent before each shipment.
3. Buyers and channel partners
Leading buyers and channel partners
How to use this list: do not mass-mail. Peruvian buyers expect a formal, complete offer — send the technical specification and the conformity and origin paperwork status up front. An importer already registered with SUNAT and familiar with INACAL requirements saves you more time than a bigger name.
4. Demand and import profile
Select your HS code and this block shows the import performance of your own category in Peru — not the country's macro numbers.
Import size & growth
Example: imports of this category run at a double-digit share of the market's total and are growing faster than overall imports.

Source-country mix
Example: China is the largest source, ahead of regional and EU suppliers.

Example: the mid price band is where Chinese supply competes; the low band is held by regional producers.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need certification for electrical products?
Some do. Peru manages technical standards through INACAL, and regulated electrical products must comply with the applicable Peruvian technical regulation and hold proof of conformity. Confirm which regulation applies to your HS line before shipping.
Can I be the importer of record myself?
Not without a Peruvian presence. Customs requires an importer registered with SUNAT and holding a RUC tax number. Most exporters appoint a local importer or distributor.
What is the import duty on my product?
Peru's weighted mean applied tariff is about 1.1%. Under the China–Peru FTA most industrial lines enter at 0% with a valid certificate of origin; otherwise the most-favoured-nation rate applies.
How much is VAT on imports?
18% in total — 16% IGV plus a 2% IPM municipal tax — charged on the CIF value plus duty. The IGV is creditable for a VAT-registered importer.
Which port should I ship to?
Callao is the national main port and handles most container traffic. Paita serves the north and Matarani the south.
How should payment be arranged?
T/T with a deposit and the balance against documents is the norm. L/C at sight is common for first or large orders. Invoicing in USD is standard and the sol is freely convertible.
