1. Your category in Malaysia
Pick your category and this section shows what we actually hold for Malaysia: how many potential buyers we have verified, what roles they play in the supply chain, and how well they fit. Switch back to All industries at any time.
“Potential buyers” means the buyers we have verified and listed in our own directory — not every importer in the country. Buyer roles are our own grouping of the roles recorded in that directory. (21 of these records do not yet carry a recorded buyer role.)
2. Entry gate
Malaysia is one of the easier markets in this group, and the ASEAN–China free trade area is the reason: qualifying Chinese-origin goods can enter at 0% with a valid Form E certificate of origin. The technical gate is SIRIM certification for regulated electrical products and MCMC type approval for radio equipment.
| Requirement | Status | What it involves | Lead time | Cost | Last verified |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SIRIM certification | Mandatory (regulated products) | Certification against the applicable Malaysian standard for regulated electrical and electronic goods, issued through SIRIM, with a certificate of approval required before import. Existing IEC or EN test reports are normally accepted as the basis. | 4–8 weeks | Pending | Pending |
| MCMC type approval | Mandatory (radio / telecom) | Radio and telecommunications equipment requires type approval from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, normally applied for through a local representative. | 4–8 weeks | Pending | Pending |
| Importer registration | Always applies | The Malaysian importer must be registered with the customs authority and declare through the national trade facilitation system. No Malaysian entity is required from the exporter. | 1–2 weeks | Pending | Pending |
| Tariff (MFN) | Always applies | Average applied MFN tariff around 5.4%; the rate depends on the HS line and must be confirmed line by line at HS-code level. | — | On customs value | Pending |
| Tariff (ACFTA / RCEP) | To claim the preference | The ASEAN–China free trade area is in force. With a valid Form E certificate of origin, qualifying Chinese-origin goods can enter at 0%. Malaysia also participates in RCEP. Confirm the origin rule for your HS line — this is the single biggest lever on landed cost here. | 3–5 days | — | Pending |
| VAT | Always applies | Malaysia operates sales and service tax rather than a VAT. Sales tax at the standard rate applies to imported goods, charged on the customs value plus duty. It is not recoverable in the way a VAT is for most importers. | — | 10% sales tax | Pending |
| Labelling | Mandatory | Labels in Bahasa Malaysia or English with product name, the importer's name and address, country of origin and any safety information. Regulated products must show the certification mark. | 1–3 weeks | — | Pending |
Certification, tariff and clearance figures change. Every row above carries a verification date, and the current requirement is confirmed with your nominated local agent before each shipment.
3. Buyers and channel partners
Leading buyers and channel partners
Every company below is a real business in Malaysia taken from our own buyer research, and we have verified that its website is reachable. Names and business types are public; decision-makers, direct emails and phone numbers are reserved for members of the Buyer Directory.
How to use this list: do not mass-mail. Malaysian buyers calculate landed cost, so lead with your Form E capability and the certification position. A distributor who already moves goods onward within ASEAN is worth more than a single-market buyer.
4. Demand and import profile
Select your HS code and this block shows the import performance of your own category in Malaysia — not the country's macro numbers.
Import size & growth
Example: imports of this category run at a double-digit share of the market's total and are growing faster than overall imports.
