Key Industrial Sectors
Sugar
Sugar is Eswatini's largest agricultural export, with cane estates and mills at Big Bend, Mhlume and Simunye producing raw and refined sugar for the European Union, South Africa and regional markets; the industry employs thousands and dominates the eastern lowveld.
Soft drink concentrate
Eswatini is a leading global supplier of soft-drink concentrate, produced at Coca-Cola's plant at Sidvokodvo and exported to bottlers across Africa, Europe and the Middle East; the concentrate trade is one of the country's top manufactured exports.
Textiles and apparel
Garment factories, mainly in the Matsapha industrial estate and around Manzini, cut and sew knitwear, shirts and uniforms for US and South African brands under AGOA preferences; textiles are a leading formal employer and the country's main manufactured export.
Forestry and wood processing
Pine and eucalyptus plantations in the western highveld feed pulp, paper, sawn timber and board mills at Bhunya and Mhlambanyatsi; wood and wood products are exported to South Africa and beyond, making forestry a pillar of the formal industrial economy.
Coal and mining
Coal is mined at Maloma in the south and exported mainly to South Africa, while asbestos, gold and diamonds are worked on a small scale; mining contributes modestly to output but the government is encouraging exploration and quarrying for construction materials.
