Reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) is one of the largest-volume materials generated in road maintenance. An asphalt rejuvenator decides whether high-RAP recycled mixes are both workable and durable - here is why it matters and how it works.

What RAP actually is

Reclaimed asphalt pavement comes from milling and demolition of old roads, containing aged bitumen and aggregate. In road maintenance and rehabilitation, RAP is produced in huge volumes; landfilling it wastes material and space.

Why aged bitumen needs rejuvenation

Through oxidation, asphalt hardens and becomes brittle as light fractions are lost and the colloid balance shifts. High-proportion reuse in new mixes would otherwise cause poor workability and cracking.

The role of a rejuvenator

A rejuvenator replenishes light fractions and breaks oxidative cross-links, restoring flexibility and cohesion. This 3-in-1 system also adds warm-mix and modification, letting recycled material compact stably at medium temperature.

Why it matters now

Under carbon constraints and rising aggregate costs, raising RAP utilization cuts cost and emissions at once, and is becoming a priority in maintenance programs everywhere.
