Key Industrial Sectors
Tourism and hospitality
The Adriatic coast, Dubrovnik, Split and the islands draw millions of visitors each year, making tourism the largest contributor to GDP and a key driver of construction and services. Coastal hotels, marinas and cruise calls generate strong seasonal demand for supplies.
Shipbuilding and marine engineering
Yards in Split, Rijeka and Pula build and repair ferries, yachts and specialised vessels, supported by a network of marine-equipment and design suppliers along the coast. Shipbuilding remains a strategic employer and a significant export earner.
Food and beverage processing
Wine, olive oil, dairy, meat and fish processing across Slavonia, Istria and Dalmatia serve domestic retail and export markets, and the sector is one of Croatia's strongest manufacturing employers and exporters.
Pharmaceuticals and chemicals
Zagreb-based pharmaceutical and chemical producers export generic drugs and specialty chemicals across the EU, building on a long research and manufacturing tradition in the capital region. Pliva and other firms maintain contract-manufacturing links with global drug makers.
Wood processing and furniture
Slavonian oak and other timber feed sawmills, panel and furniture factories in Zagreb, Slavonia and the north, exporting finished wood products to Italy, Austria and other EU markets. The sector is a major rural employer and a focus for modernisation investment.
